In the UK, approximately 170,000 people are reported missing each year. Sadly, many families feel unsupported by police forces across the country and are calling on the government to review how missing person cases are handled. Such a review could help provide the answers for these families.
One recurring theme in my conversations with these families is the inconsistency in police support. While some receive good assistance, the majority are left feeling helpless, often having to search on their own or rely on external agencies - costs that are usually borne by the families themselves or through public donations. This situation must change. Far too many families are left without answers, and the system needs to do better to support them.
